TEXAS – When a young Hereford calf named JR was found cast between a fence and a hay feeder, his caretakers feared he might never regain normal function. Just six months old, JR showed signs of pain and poor mobility. That’s when animal chiropractor Shawna Turner of Supple Steeds was called in to help.
“Initially, they thought he might need a chiropractic adjustment,” said Shawna. “But once I was able to assess him hands-on, I realized that wasn’t what he needed in that moment.”
Instead, she opted to treat him using the PiezoWave2T Vet, ELvation’s focused shockwave therapy system, known for its depth-specific precision and non-invasive application. The first treatment was performed on April 1st, and a second session followed nine days later.
“JR actually managed to cast himself again between the two treatments,” Shawna shared. “But it wasn’t as serious as the first time. He did backslide a bit, but it was still clear progress from where he started.”
Shawna captured each step of JR’s recovery on video, from initial treatments to follow-ups showing improved mobility and posture. His owner also shared updates—including one where she joked that JR was “being a little turd” because he felt so much better and was getting a bit too playful.
This case highlights the versatility and effectiveness of focused shockwave therapy in field conditions, especially when used by experienced practitioners.
Shawna will continue to monitor JR’s recovery and provide updates, and we’ll be sharing short video clips along the way to document his progress.
